How to Connect with Digital INFLUENCERS
In 2017 there are more influencers than ever thanks to the likes of technology and social media. If you want to get ahold of one in particular, reach out to them directly. First and foremost, follow them for a while so you are certain they are a good fit for your brand. Then present ways you can collaborate. You only gain value if you bring them in as a partner on your collaboration though, this is important. Paying them to post an ‘ad’ or ‘commercial’ is typically not ‘on brand’ with the influencer. Because of this, you will not get the desired value that you are seeking.
Another thing to keep in mind is dividing your budget up among several smaller influencers, as opposed to one large influencer. Many small influencers can provide you a ton of value and may only ask for free products or service. This also gives you more exposure across different audiences and platforms. One influencer may use a different platform than another, and reaching all of those audiences can be extremely helpful in building your brand.
Find ways that benefit both of you so you can build long lasting relationships. I know many influencers who are now very influential, but offer discounted services to those companies that they worked with in their early years out of a sense of loyalty. If you are working with a limited budget, get creative with it. There are many ways you can provide value in addition to just money.
