The Mindset to Change Your Life’s Direction, w/ John Brontsema

My whole life was dedicated to baseball from an early time. People say, “Don’t put your identity,” or “You’re not a baseball player. That’s not your identity.” It really is though. While it’s not, it feels like it, because every decision I made, everything I was passionate about was baseball and achieving the next level.

About Will Goldstein:

Writer, producer, and director, Will Goldstein, joined Skyler on The SKYLER IRVINE Show to talk about filmmaking, IGTV, and utilizing low-key social platforms.

Raised in Scottsdale, Will spent about a decade in LA before eventually moving back to the valley. His first job was at the Shea Harkins 14 selling customers popcorn and soda in his suspenders and bow tie at just 15-years-old.

His favorite restaurants in the valley is a toss-up between Goldie’s and George and Son’s Asian cuisine (which was actually his second job after working at the theatre). He grew up going to the movies or attending Sun’s games when they were still contenders.

Will attended USC’s film school which he said was a huge accomplishment getting into and never thought he would have the opportunity to do.

The most memorable mistake he has made in his career is going out with his co-director and business partner and making a feature-length film in his hometown of Cartagena, Columbia. They started with $0 and ended up funding their passion project through his partner’s friends and family. They willed the thing to death and refused to quit even when it became impossible (which was every day). This taught him that while passion is absolutely necessary for his line of business, a bulletproof plan/schedule is just as necessary to get the best results.

Will relishes on the time he was lucky enough to see Pulitzer Prize winner Tracy Letts speak and he was asked what advice he would give to someone pursuing a career in the same field. His answer to the question: “Put your head down, and do your own shit.” This is what Will would say when asked this same question.

Will is in the process of sound editing a feature film he wrote and directed here in the Valley. It is a horror/dark comedy called SHE about a recently divorced young man who seeks refuge at an Airbnb only to find that the home’s seductive owner has other plans for him. He had a press screening on July 5th, 2018 where it was well-received. At the time of the show, they are currently putting the finishing touches on the sound design and preparing to send it to festivals.
