The Mindset to Change Your Life’s Direction, w/ John Brontsema

My whole life was dedicated to baseball from an early time. People say, “Don’t put your identity,” or “You’re not a baseball player. That’s not your identity.” It really is though. While it’s not, it feels like it, because every decision I made, everything I was passionate about was baseball and achieving the next level.

Iconic Arizona

Nick Carmichael joined Skyler on episode 91 of The SKYLER IRVINE Show. Nick is the founder of the Iconic Arizona retail shop and brand.

Nick’s first job was as a golf caddie at the Kenosha Country Club when he was 12-years-old. In this position, he learned about who he did and didn’t want to caddy for based on tips, bag size, etc. He also had some fun times playing 3-on-3 basketball games and exploring the woods behind the club with his other caddy coworkers.

In 2017, Nick renovated a 1975 Winnebago Travel Trailer so now he and his family can go camping whenever they get the chance. He enjoys camping at Bartlett Lake and taking the paddleboards or kayaks with them. He also enjoys dining locally at Phoenicia Cafe for Mediterranean food, Cyclo for Vietnamese cuisine and BYOB, and Clever Koi for pork ramen!

Nick says that he is inspired by companies that have “opened the flood-gates for the local movement.” Some of the companies he talked about are State Forty-Eight, State Bicycle, Keep it Wild, Phoenix Flea, Frances Vintage, Junk in the Truck, and Lifetime Leather. He states that they have done a lot of the heavy lifting, and made it easy for new brands like his to become successful quicker.

He is also inspired by his wife, Allison, who is the hardest worker he knows and is always trying to expand her current level of knowledge.

His advice to someone pursuing a career in a similar field is to put in the time when you get a chance to meet a customer face-to-face, over DM’s, or whatever method it may be. This interaction will be remembered, so try not to look at it as one sale and think of the interaction as obtaining a customer for life.
